About

Theorizing our existence requires profound creativity.

Some scientists think that at a very small scale, space and time become tiny loops; some think matter is made of strings; and others follow completely different theories.

Through fashion, we explore the imagery, cultural significance, and diversity behind the science of what makes up the universe.

Our clothing celebrates the patterns and textures behind each theory.

We do this through the creation and display of one of a kind outfits meant to capture scientific concepts through look and feel.

We're artists and scientists.

Fabric of Space-Time is a collaboration between quantum physicist Gabriela Barreto Lemos and artist and designer Kayla Lewis. Gabriela and Kayla found that designing clothing based off the theories of space-time helped them better understand and identify. They hope that through sharing the designs and creating a brand for Fabric of Space-Time, they will be able to inspire others to feel the same sense of connection.

Shows

World Maker Faire, NYC, Sept. 2018

We set up a boutique and posed as stylists, featuring Lucianne Walkowicz as a guest stylist. Maker Faire attracts an extremely diverse, curious, and engaged crowd, which led to a variety of hard questions and big ideas for the future of FoST.

This time we displayed t-shirts and phone cases that go with each theory so participants could purchase apparel to go along with their match. Business cards, brochures, signs, and clothing tags showcased our rebrand, designed by Danielle Deley.

Figment Festival, NYC, June 2018

We set up a boutique where we posed as quantum stylists and helped festival attendees connect with their theory of quantum-gravity. They were also invited to design their own theory, as a nod to how new theories constantly emerge. This show was through the Guerilla Science Residency and funded by the National Science Foundation.
